- Summary
- Using a socio-historical approach, reviews the transformation of the meaning of work and its organization in the enterprise and in society during the 19th and 20th centuries. Identifies reasons for the decline of organized labour and notes the characteristics of union-management relations in mass production industries. Maintains that the managerial model of work has become a model for organization of the post-industrial society.
