- Summary
- With one exception, all of these nine papers were presented at a Notre Dame conference titled "Europe: The New Melting Pot?" Edited by Messina (government and international relations, U. of Notre Dame), the contributions explore post-World War II immigration to Western Europe in the context of immigration policy. Several of the papers explore the possible relevance of the U.S. paradigm of ethnic incorporation to the European situation. Specific topics include the demographics of mass migration, state responses to refugees and asylum seekers, a critique of Waldinger's model of ethnic incorporation, and cultural minority rights in public education.
