- In this study, Gallagher (English, Seattle Pacific U.) considers the historical development of confession in South African religious practice and literature. She begins by examining Foucault's and Bakhtin's opposing views of confession. The remainder of the text is devoted to specific instances of confessional practices and discourse in pre- and post-apartheid South Africa.
