Papers from a May 2002 conference detail new uses for X-ray powder diffraction in the areas of method development, instrumental development and measurement techniques, neutron powder diffraction, and materials. Some specific topics include estimation of the magnesium fraction in magnesium calcite, X-ray scattering from thin films and multilayers, elastic behavior of thin stabilized-zirconia coatings, optimization of X-ray pole figure measurement, and performance stability of microfocusing source and multilayer optics based on X-ray diffraction systems. Other topics include texture inheritance in a Zn protective layer, phase transformation in metallic glasses, texture analysis of nanostructured metals produced by severe plastic deformation, and neutron and X-ray diffraction studies of piezoelectric materials under non-ambient conditions.
