Summary
The United States Congressional Roll Call Voting Records Series was developed by ICPSR mainly from the DAILY CONGRESSIONAL RECORD and the Congressional Vote Analysis Collection. ICPSR's holdings begin in 1789 with the first Congress of the United States. Records of all roll call votes in both chambers of the United States Congress from the first through the second session of the 104th Congress are provided in this series. Information is provided for one chamber of a single Congress in each data file. The units of analysis are the individual members of Congress. Each record contains a member's voting action on every roll call vote taken during that Congress, as well as demographic information on them. A related collection, United States Congressional Roll Call Voting Records, 1789-1990: Reformatted Data (ICPSR 9822), provides an updated and reformatted version of ICPSR's roll call collection.
