- Summary
- Five essays and an epilogue describe--mostly through personal experience--the trials and tribulation of people of Japanese descent create by the tyranny of state power, and the manner in which the evacuees coped with their painful episodes. Most such accounts focus on criticizing the US government or insisting on undying loyalty to it, but the emphasis here is how people were encouraged to seek advanced education to overcome their suppression. Among the perspectives are individual dissent and personal growth, a Christian's account of Tule Lake Concentration Camp and educational growth, and Japanese American internment in Arkansas. Ten illustrations are included. The text is double spaced. Annotation : 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
