- Summary
- "Reconstructing Post-Nationalist Liberal Pluralism examines the relationship between identity politics and liberal political theory. It traces the history of liberal pluralism from John Stuart Mill through to the present, arguing that Mill was the first liberal to see that social group membership fundamentally shaped individual identity, as well as interest and moral beliefs. The book argues for a reconstructed liberal pluralism that is based on identity group membership rather than interests and moral beliefs, which moves beyond liberalism's historical relationship with nationalism. It examines implications of liberal identity politics in cases of minority inclusion in deliberative politics and the political status of Muslim minorities in the West."--Jacket.
