Summary
Presents Sten's wartime diary, interspersed with comments made by him in the 1990s. He was born in 1928 in Zloczów, Poland (now Zolochiv, Ukraine) to the Sternschuss family. At the beginning of the German occupation, his father was drafted for forced labor and was later killed. Sten and his mother survived several mass murders of Jews in Zloczów, and in October 1942 they were hidden by their non-Jewish friends Hryc Tyz, Misia Koreniuk, and Helena Skrzeszewska in the village of Jelechowice (Yelykhovychi). Later the three rescuers managed to bring eleven other Jews from Zloczów, including four of Sten's relatives, and hide them. In July 1944 they were liberated by the Soviets. Sten remained in Poland until 1957, when he emigrated to Israel.
