Summary
An autobiography by the Jewish American sculptor and author Frederic Zeller, born in 1924 in Berlin. Discusses the rise of Hitler and the influence of Nazism on his life and that of his family: the boycott of his parents' shop, physical attacks, and "Kristallnacht". Sketches his flight as a 14-year-old from Berlin to Nijmegen (Netherlands) with his niece and nephew in December 1938 and his stay in a refugee camp near Rotterdam, where he was joined by his 12-year-old sister. In 1939 he and his sister were admitted to England. Their parents were deported.
