Summary
The desert of Sonora covers 3 large geographic-cultural areas: The Gulf of California where the ethnic community of the Cucapa lives, the central coast inhabited by the Comca̓ac or Seris and the area Hohokam Trincheras where the Tohono O̓odham communities live. The book analyses and documents the origin and transformations in the production of their folkart, expressed in domestic, labor, ceremonial and ornamental objects that reflect their social mobility, linguistic affiliation and use of the natural resources of the desert-sea. The authors conclude the need to reevaluate the local craftsmanship and help solve the numerous difficulties the desert artisans face.
