- "In its endeavor to document ceramics brought to our islands hundreds of years ago from China, Thailand, and Viet Nam through trade, The Oriental Ceramic Society of the Philippines has mounted in the past various exhibitions on different groups of Chinese and Southeast Asian wares found in the Philippines and published their corresponding exhibition catalogs. 'Zhangzhou Ware Found in the Philippines : "Swatow" Export Ceramics from Fujian 16th-17th Century" is the fifth exhibition our Society has put together, a project co-organized with the Yuchengco Museum. Zhangzhou ware from Fujian was produced in the 16th and 17th centuries amidst a dramatic trading background. It played a significant role in China's ceramic trade overseas during the era when the new market in Europe was founded and the lifting of the trade ban in the Ming dynasty was known to have occurred. The exhibition of Zhangzhou ware is, therefore, long overdue. The standard of production of Zhangzhou kilns may not have been at par with that of Jingdezhen, but the rustic charm of Zhangzhou ware has made it a much sought-after trade ceramic in Asia. To date, it has become popular among the collectors in Asia and Europe as well."--taken from Preface, page 11.
