- Summary
- An analysis of the work of Öyvind Fahlström (Sao Paulo, Brazil, 1928-1976) who is simultaneously Brazil's most famous and least-known artist. Despite solo exhibitions in the major museums of the world: the Guggenheim, Moderna Museet, Centre Geoges Pompidou, and others, his work is virtually unknown in Brazil. This exhibition looks at an important aspect of his work: his use of maps. As a multicultural artist before that term was in bogue, Falström was actualy interested in and aware of his position in the world. Most of the works in this exhibition date from the 1960s and 1970s and reflect the tragic effects of the Cold War on the third world, and the the world map became ever more polarized.
