Summary
The exhibition features important works of Baroque imagery, such as Our Blessed Lady statuary by Fra Agostinho de Jesus. Wood carvings from churches like the old cathedral in Salvador (17th century), and Portuguese sculptures including the reliefs of St. Peter and St. Paul (1690) and torch-bearing angels (18th century). It also shows expressive pieces from Minas Gerais state made by artists Aleijadinho and Master Ataide, as well as a splendid collection of oratories. This is the first in a sieries of publications, Art Collections from the Governmental Palaces of Sao Paulo State. The objective is to reveal the richness and diversity of the artistic patrimony housed in state buildings.
