- Summary
- The large-scale use of flight recorders by commercial airlines, coupled with the enhanced quality of results offered by modern computer-based reduction processes makes it possible to broaden knowledge of the phenomenon of atmospheric turbulence. At the same time, new methods for predicting the response of flexible aircraft to turbulence are being proposed, and novel gust alleviation systems are being designed and tested. The Structures and Materials Panel held two Workshops on this topic, one in October 1986 and the other in October 1987. Presentations at the first Workshop, which concentrated on Measurements of Turbulence and Data Collection, are recorded in the main report -- AGARD-R-734: this volume records the presentations made at the second Worshop which was held, under the chairmanship of Mr R.F.O'Connell, to discuss Methods of Analysis and Regulations.
