Summary

Memoirs of a Jewish couple who lived in Kraków on "Aryan" papers. Both worked for the Polish socialist underground led by Józef Cyrankiewicz (later Prime Minister of Poland, 1954-1970), Zygmunt Kłopotowski, and Adam Rysiewicz, also giving aid to Jews. In April 1943 a branch of Żegota was founded in Kraków and Maria was appointed as the Jewish representative. The book describes many of the couple's actions to save Jews in Kraków: fabricating false documents, including work permits, transferring money to the needy, arranging for safe hiding places, etc. Relates, also, many acts of courage of Poles who helped Jews, as well as acts of betrayal. Mieczysław was sent to Hungary in January 1944. Maria remained in Kraków and also helped Jewish and Polish refugees from Warsaw after the uprising of August 1944. After the war, the couple settled in Israel.
