- Retrospective book "Printed Bodies" by artist Patricia Israel (b. Chile, 1939) is the first major monograph on the collages and objectual art pieces using images and narration, installations, coloring, sketching, gluing and sewing to express an analytical view of her present from her personal and artistic past. Israel's father had a textile factory, first where she played amongst sewing machine shuttles and bobbins, and fabric pieces. Later he had a hat factory. Both childhood experiences [Tailor and Judaism] are still present in her work. Justo Pastor Mellado describes her present work as "She needed an editorial format that was not a book on an artist, neither an artist book, but a support of her graphic-analytical work where she could arrange the elements of her mystic-historic structure, showing the "insignificant graphic small trash" she has been saving in her tailor drawer"--P.15. Patricia Israel was the first woman to win the Bienal Internacional de Arte de Valparaíso (1992). In 1974 she was one of the Chilean artists present in the section Antifascist graphic at the Biennale di Venezia, the first manifestation of art against the Chilean military coup of 1973. Alongside her painting career she experiments with collages and objectual art and is a professor to many new generations of Chilean artists.
