- Zacht polyurethaan (PUR) schuim wordt sinds 1950 gebruikt voor het maken van stoelkussens en matrassen, in de vulling van kleding en ook, sinds de jaren zestig, voor kunstwerken. De met dit zachte schuim vervaardigde kunstwerken en designstoelen hebben echter een vrij korte levensduur. PUR-schuim is niet gemaakt om lang goed te blijven. Thea van Oosten bespreekt de verschillende middelen om lichtveroudering tegen te gaan, om nieuw PUR-schuim te beschermen tegen verval en om oud gedegradeerd schuim opnieuw veerkrachtig te maken. Ze kijkt ook naar de mogelijke invloed van deze middelen op het uiterlijk, de flexibiliteit en de chemische eigenschappen van PUR-schuim.
