Summary
The author of this volume explores the artistic, ethnic, religious, elements of the Andean culture of Tiahuanaco, the Bolivian mountaintop Pre-Hispanic city by Lake Titicaca with its extraordinary massive-stone Temple Gate with its ornamental and combined hieroglyphs dedicated to the god Sun, its sophisticated calendar, the monoliths, the complex reservoir system with stone pipes, and a truncated pyramid perfectly squared with the cardinal points of the compass. "An important element to consider is that the separation that western culture makes of the social, economic, religious, art, etc. organization has no correspondence with the Amerindians. They maintained an integrated and totalitarian cosmovision based fundamentally in their myths, dogmas, and governing castes, where each element or action was part of a whole and coherent cosmic and magical world. All Amerindian events involved a philosophical-conceptual-mystic-artistic reason through a communicative-poetic willingness, something not investigated in detail in most of the Pre-Columbian studies. Maybe we have accomplished it" --P. VII.
