Summary
The promising future of the city of Sao Paulo at the end of the 19th century attracted numerous foreign photographers who were interested in documenting the infrastructure works implemented in the city. Swiss photographer Guilherme Gaensly (1843-1928) iconic images were inserted in the ideological proposal of the period elite interested in presenting at a national and international level a "European" and modern "postcard" of the city.
