- 晋唐两宋时期, 江西地区涌现了众多的小说作家作品, 如晋陶潜《搜神后记》, 唐卢肇《逸史》, 五代王定保《唐摭言》, 北宋乐史《绿珠传》, 《杨太真外传》, 欧阳修《归田录》, 孔平仲《续世说》, 《孔氏谈苑》, 南宋朱弁《曲洧旧闻》, 洪迈《夷坚志》, 曾敏行《独醒杂志》, 刘昌诗《芦蒲笔记》, 罗大经《鹤林玉露》等. 代代相续的小说家构建了颇具特色和影响的晋唐两宋江西小说家群体, 他们的作品以文言短篇小说为主, 兼及志怪, 传奇, 轶事, 琐闻等题材, 内容丰富, 形式多样, 多层面地反映了古代民众的生活风貌, 世态人情和社会心理, 真实地再现了纷纭复杂的大千世界, 记录了我国古代近千年政治, 经济和文化的发展历程. 这些作品是古代民众的生活史, 心灵史和风俗史, 其社会认识价值, 小说史意义和文化史意义都是深远而广泛的. 本书从原始材料入手, 对晋唐两宋江西小说进行了较为细致的整理梳耙, 以作家个体研究为起点, 深入发掘江西小说的名家名作, 就其创作特点, 成就影响作出较为中肯的分析, 评价. 以作家群体研究为重心, 整体审视观照晋唐两宋江西小说, 力求全面, 准确地勾划出晋唐两宋江西小说的发展历程, 揭示江西小说的整体风貌和区域特色, 考察江西小说对江西文学, 传统文化的影响, 探索传统文化对江西小说的滋润与养成. 同时, 分析比照晋唐两宋江西小说与全国小说及其他地区小说的演进, 交流关系, 论析晋唐两宋江西小说在中国小说史上的地位与影响, 从而获得江西区域小说史和中国古代小说史的多重认知.
