- 本書分上下兩篇, 上篇主要考察吏部組織與吏部尚書職能, 以及吏部尚書與唐代政治的關係;下篇考察吏部尚書擔任者的出身與任職情況.本書通過對兩"唐書", "資治通鑒', "唐六典", "通典", "唐會要", "冊府元龜", "唐大詔令集", "全唐文"等基本史料進行梳理, 運用傳統史學方法, 並結合歷史地理學, 政治學等學科方法, 採用統計, 列圖表等方式, 對吏部尚書進行較為全面的論述, 力求進一步揭示出唐代吏部職官的情況.主要內容包括尚書吏部職官沿革, 吏部尚書職掌, 其擔任者人事問題以及與唐代政治的關係等.吏部尚書是吏部長官, 其本身職能及擔任者的出身, 任職等情況具有代表性, 本書即以其為主展開論述.
