Summary
Between 1992 and 2005, photographer Pablo Ortiz Monasterio frequently visited small towns around the skirts of volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztlaccihuatl. These photographic journeys became a book he describes as "the found memory of our ancestors, the 'antiguos' (ancient) when they were mountains, early days of volcanoes and volcano-man." The plates, mostly in color are accompanied by texts from noted authors "tlacuilos" Antonio Saborit, Margo Glantz and Alfonso Morales.
