Summary
This catalogue brings together some 2,000 oil paintings from over 80 collections in Devon. The single largest collection is that of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter, yet Devon boasts many other significant holdings. These include the very fine collections of the Britannia Royal Naval College, the Burton Art Gallery and Museum and the Met Office. A particular highlight is the collection of paintings held at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre, representing the single most important collection of fairground art in the country. Other smaller, but no less significant collections range from libraries, schools and volunteer-run museums, to an almshouse and a Polish veterans' home.
