- Summary
- This comprehensive overview of Israeli and Palestinian Arab political and social movements offers an objective presentation of some highly complex issues. Beginning with the history of Palestine prior to Israeli independence, the author provides an adequate context for understanding such important topics as the role of the Arab states, the role of the "great powers," and contemporary American foreign policy concerns. He also examines the sociopolitical clashes and rivalries among the various factions in both societies, as well as the aborted coup in the USSR. This new edition reconsiders the issues in light of the most current scholarship and also includes a new final chapter that deals with the rise of the intifada and with the Gulf War.
