- Summary
- The diary of Esther van Vriesland (1926-1942), a Dutch Jewish girl from Gorinchem, relating her experiences from December 1941 to September 1942. She describes the impact of German anti-Jewish measures on her life and the lives of her brother, sister, and parents. Her father sold his business in order to avoid confiscation. The children were dismissed from their schools and had to travel to a Jewish school in Rotterdam. Relates their gradual isolation due to restrictions. On 26 September 1942 the family was deported to Amsterdam, from there to Westerbork, and then to concentration camps in Poland. They did not survive.
