Summary
"This is a study of the economics of the singing profession in Britain, particularly in relation to 'classical' singers, performers, and teachers. It is based on recent research carried out over a two-year period, during which the author amassed a wealth of information on this previously unstudied labour market. The author, an economist, who studied singing for a number of years in London, Italy, and Germany, and who now lectures in economics, analyses the complexities of the labour market for singers, and answers questions such as: How much does the training of singers cost? What employment is available? How much do singers earn? While the outlook is that of an economist, the language is tailored to a much wider audience. Young artists generally, and those involved in arts administration and the training and education of singers and musicians, will find much of interest in this book."--Jacket.
