- Summary
- The sharp increase in the price of imported oil during the 1970s generated much interest in the economic impact of large oil price hikes and related energy price increases. This study provides empirical estimates of how oil price increases affect the structure and level of domestic price increases affect the structure and level of domestic prices and analyzes the effects of government policy responses to oil price shock.
- The study indicates, at a high level of detail, which industries are particularly sensitive to oil price increases and which benefit most from various policy alternatives, as well as from substitution of other energy sources for high-priced oil.
