Summary
An inedited study on the architectural complex which houses the ruins of the former Franciscan Convent of St. Bonaventure, done by the Instituto do Patrimonio Histrico e Artistico Nacional (Iphan) and that make up a precise archaeological site in Itaboraí, Rio de Janeiro. The convent was built in the late 17th century in the village of Santo Antonio de Sa, an important rural area during the colonial period that fell into disrepair in the mid-19th century due to an epidemic that ravaged the region, causing deaths and the exodus of the population and of the monks who inhabited the Convent. In the book archaeologist Maria Beltro presents an expressive survey of traces found in the archaeological site that allowed important findings about the history and rescue the memory of that region. The book represents a milestone in archaeological discoveries that help reveal new facts and to consolidate the history of Brazil's colonial heritage.
