Summary
"The Jewish communities of Eastern Europe suffered the terrible fate of being the first victims of the "Final Solution" designed by Nazi leaders for the Jews of Europe. In their broad areas of conquest, instead of immediately annihilating the entire population, the Germans kept some Jews alive to use as a work force to serve the German war machine. In a number of ghetto communities, there was time enough for the Jewish community to organize and develop a strong fighting underground. this is the story of one such community in the city of Kovno, Lithuania." -- back cover
