Every given site is specific, and successful landscape design has to respond to its given features. This means, before proposing the transformation of a site, one needs to understand its form. This book argues that it is impossible to design landscape without a thorough knowledge of field instruments. These measure the geometry of the land, they observe and describe physical features, and moreover, help to conceive the topology of a landscape.
