Summary

This book is a collection of essays by scholars and artists who participated in the symposium "Breakdowns" at the State University of New York, College at Plattsburgh in March 1992. The essays address breakdowns of the twentieth century - in social, educational, political and economic spheres - as well as deconstruction in literature and explore both the sources and significance of the phenomenon.
