"Qualitative interviews held around the time of the 1990 national elections, along with a statistical base, provide rich data for this self-identified feminist research project. Among the striking results: the threats of war per se are less central than, for example, often successful economic adaptations to male absences by multi-woman households; women are more willing to carry out male roles than vice-versa; men used domestic violence against a majority of women interviewed"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 57.
