  • Proceedings of the New-York state conventions for "rescuing the canals from the ruin with which they are threatened" [electronic resource] : by exposing and resisting "the railroad conspiracy" for "discrediting the canals and diminishing their revenues, with a view of bringing them under the hammer", and adopting measures for counteracting "the ruinous competition with railroads, permitted by the State and instituted by railroad directors for the express purpose of breaking down the credit of the canals" : (as stated editorially in the New York herald, the New York times and the New York tribune) : with replies from nominees of all parties for state offices, opinions of the New York Chamber of Commerce, addresses of the Clinton League to the people & supervisors of the State and to the members of the New York Corn Exchange, including statistics and explanations concerning the canal system and the railway operations in connexion with the public rights and revenues, and the agricultural, manufacturing & commercial interests of the State / arranged by Henry O'Rielly [i.e., O'Reilly] and Hugh Allen, for the Clinton League.
